Tiger Leaping Gorge Trekking tour

From http://www.china-tour.com/

Tiger Leaping Gorge is one of the deepest gorges on the planet, and it has the best hiking trail in the Lijiang area. But it is very hard work so shouldn't be taken lightly - if you are not fit, do some work before you embark on the trek or you'll struggle to enjoy it.It's reallyvery steep and quite a challenge.
Tiger Leaping Gorge Trekking map
Tiger Leaping Gorge Trekking map
You will be able to find the path from Qiaotou (ask at the ticket booth if you are unsure), but if you walk along the main tourist road that heads down the gorge you'll find a painted arrow on the left which points up a steep path. From there continue to follow the painted arrows but expect to get lost a couple of times (but not so much that you can't find your way to the real path again).Once you get into the gorge you'll find that any wrong turns really just mean you are either above or below the main path and you should be able to find the right path again fairly quickly.

You can stop at Halfway House for the night.  Halfway House also has a fabulous open air restaurant with a very cool cloth menu that gets passed around from table to table. If you are fit, it will take you about 6 hours to get to the Halfway House which is longer than some maps suggest so do allow more time than the map.
Tiger Leaping Gorge Trekking
Take some water with you but you can also buy it at little stalls all along the way.

As for weather - wear trousers even if it's warm (some of the path is a little over grown), take a hat, sunscreen, and some wet weather gear.  You will need hiking boots - don't even consider doing this trek in anything less. The guest house supplied soap and towels plus some basic bedding which means you can keep your pack fairly light.
Tiger Leaping Gorge Trekking
You can catch a taxi from Lijiang to Qiaotou which cost about AUD70.00.  Significantly more expensive than the bus but is very convenient. You will have the path to yourself and a couple of hours to relax and have a beer or three before heading to bed for an early night.
Tiger Leaping Gorge Trekking
This tour combines trekking the famous Tiger Leaping Gorge with walking through remote farm villages to experience village. You will be rewarded with spectacular views, authentic local food, great guides and a real appreciation of life in rural China.

Leaving Siberia, the train of Chinese coaches, with first and second class only, crosses Mongolia via the Gobi Desert to enter China.

The favoured places to break this section of the journey are:the empty undulating grassy steppes of the Gobi desert are the main attraction, occasionally enlivened by herds of Mongolian horses or camels and clusters of yurts.Rolling steppes are a feature of the trans-Manchurian route, but the highlight along the way is passing through the Great Wall of China, where the restoration work carried ou on the wall is considered more sympathetic than on other stretches, where it has been too much rebuilt.

Beijing–Shanghai High-Speed Train Tour

From http://www.china-tour.com/
High-speed Train
The Bullet Train
The Beijing–Shanghai High-Speed Railway (or Jinghu High-Speed Railway or the bullet-train) is a 1,318-kilometre (819 mi) long high-speed railway that connects two major economic zones China, the Bohai Economic Rim-Beijing and the Yangtze River Delta-Shanghai.
Beijing-Shanghai Bullet Train
It is pretty excited to try this and would definitely recommend it as one of the best ways to travel between these two cities.Running between Beijing South Railway Station and Shanghai HongQiao, the fastest service takes roughly 4 hours and 45 minutes, with a top speed of 190 miles per hour (300+ km/h). China is a land of contrasts, and you see this clearly as the landscape zips by outside your window.
Constructions along the way
Cities along the way
One of the main benefits of taking the train is that you get to see something as you travel. While not particularly scenic, the Beijing to Shanghai route offers a fascinating look at the country. Crazy construction and monstrous apartment blocks interchange with traditional hutong-style housing and farmers laboring away on rice fields. There’s a certain frenetic pace to the construction you see everywhere, and the scale of the housing developments is truly mind-boggling.
Farms along the way
Rivers and Bridges along the way
Above the compartment door is a speedometer to tell you exactly how fast you’re hurtling through the landscape. Doing 190 mph explains the blurriness of some of the pictures; our camera couldn't quite keep up with it.Maybe it's not more beautiful than Lhasa or Xi'an scenery on the way,but it's so amazed that how quickly to develop in China.
